Travel and Public Transport
Tonbridge is ideally placed geographically for ease of access to London and the Channel Ports. The main College campus is at the south end of the town within a few minutes walk of the railway station, main shopping centre and bus service.
There is a fast and frequent train service from Tonbridge to London, usually running at three trains per hour, and you can be in central London in a little over thirty minutes. Trains also run to the South Coast and Channel ports direct from Tonbridge and there is an hourly service to Gatwick Airport which takes about 40 minutes. There is also a direct link to Heathrow Airport from London. Student travel tickets and passes can be obtained at the train stations in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
Getting around London
We would recommend that you buy an ‘A-Z of London’ (street map) when you arrive. You can get a copy from bookshops and newsagents, and it will help you to find your way around.
Travelcards
You can make considerable savings on travel costs by buying a Travelcard, LT Card, Bus Pass, or student Oyster Photocard. There are discounts for full-time students, and we will provide details at enrolment. These are available at National Rail and Underground (’Tube’) stations and at some newsagents. Tube and National Rail Services within Greater London are divided into six zones and the cost of your ticket depends on the number of zones your journey covers. New Cross is in Zone 2.
