Fees for University Programmes

2012/13 Academic Year

Our programmes are some of the most affordable within our region. Our high quality qualifications ensure you receive the best University-level education, enabling you to focus on your future.

Tuition fees for students commencing a University programme in the 2012/13 academic year (September 2012 onwards) are changing as a result of new legislation. For more information, please click here.

Some tuition fees for our University programmes in the 2012/13 academic year have not yet been finalised. This page will be updated as soon as fees are confirmed so please continue to check here for the latest information.

Please note that if you’re awarded a tuition fee loan, you won’t be expected to start paying back your tuition fees until you’ve finished your programme and are earning more than £21,000 a year. Tuition fee loans aren’t means-tested so anyone who meets the eligibility criteria will be able to apply for one. Please see the Financial Support for University Students section for further information.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are payable by all students and a fee is payable for each academic year of a programme. The tuition fees below are for students beginning a University programme in the 2012/13 academic year. Students who commence their programme in 2012/13 will be charged the same fee rates (plus an annual inflationary increase) for each year of their programme.

There are two levels of tuition fee for University programmes, based on a student’s ‘fee status’:

Home status – In general, UK and other European Union (EU) citizens who have lived in the European Economic Area (EEA) since at least 1 September 2009 will qualify for home status, although there are other criteria to be satisfied. Please note that students who meet the criteria for home status and enrol on a University of Greenwich programme that is equivalent to, or lower than, a qualification they already hold may be subject to higher tuition fees (see ‘ELQ’ section below).

Overseas status – Students will be overseas status if they do not fulfil the criteria to qualify for home status. In general, citizens of countries outside the EU who do not have ‘settled’ status and have not lived in the EEA since at least September 2009 will be overseas status. The College does not receive Government funding for overseas status students, so overseas status students are charged higher tuition fees.

The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) has a useful information sheet to help you assess your fee status if you’re unsure. Tuition Fees for Part-time Programmes

Annual tuition fees for part-time University programmes are based on the number of ‘credits’ studied in the academic year. Most part-time programmes consist of at least 60 credits per year (a full-time programme consists of 120 credits per year). Details regarding the number of credits studied for each programme can be found under the programme listings on our website.

Additional Fees

In addition to a tuition fee, some programmes have other fees, such as the cost of field trips, which form an essential element of the programme. These fees are payable on enrolment and are the same for all students, regardless of fee status. To check whether a programme has additional fees, please check the programme’s page on our website. Please note that, whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of this information, there are occasions when the College has to change or add additional fees without notice.

ELQ (Equivalent or Lower Qualifications) status

Students who meet the criteria for ‘Home’ fee status and enrol on an HNC, HND or Honours Degree that is equivalent to, or lower than, a qualification they already hold (in any subject) may be required to pay higher tuition fees than other home status students because of the Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQ) policy. Under ELQ policy, the Government no longer provides funding to colleges and universities for students who are studying an equivalent, or lower qualification to one that they already hold.

Students studying a Foundation Degree or PGCE/Cert. Ed. (DTLLS) programme or those awarded the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) are currently exempt from ELQ policy and will therefore pay the same tuition fee as other home status students on the same programme.

The College has decided that for the 2012/13 academic year, ELQ status students on University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University programmes and the Computing HNC will be charged the same tuition fee as other home status students. An announcement regarding tuition fees for ELQ status students on University of Greenwich programmes is expected at the end of 2011.

Students who intend to enrol on a programme that is equivalent to, or lower than, a qualification they already hold should note that they will not normally be eligible for the government tuition fee loan and maintenance loan and grant.

Students progressing from a Foundation Degree or HND to a Degree Top-Up

Students who progress from a Foundation Degree or HND in 2011/12 to a Degree Top-Up programme in 2012/13 will be treated as continuing students for fee and student finance purposes. They will therefore be subject to the 2012/13 fees for continuing students.

Payment

Fees are charged annually, so you’ll be asked for payment at the beginning of each academic year.

If you’re awarded a tuition fee loan (please see the Financial Support for University Students section for further information) you won’t be expected to start paying back your tuition fees until you’ve finished your programme and are earning more than £21,000 a year.

If you choose not to apply for a loan (or you aren’t eligible for one), you’ll be asked to pay your annual tuition fee on enrolment at the beginning of each academic year. Students on HNC programmes pay their tuition fees directly to the College, as do overseas status students on University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University programmes. All other students pay their tuition fee directly to the partner university.

Both the College and its University partners offer the facility to pay tuition fees in instalments; for further information please use the links below to go to the finance pages of the relevant university. Please note that the College does not offer this facility to employers who are providing financial sponsorship to a student.

Any additional fees (e.g. materials and trip fees) are payable to the College by all students on enrolment.
