BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness

Duration : 2 yearsThe BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport enables students to learn about the theory behind sport and fitness in great depth. It gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience for use in the work place, such as coaching, fitness instructing or sports massage therapy or as a stepping stone to higher education. The variety of subjects gives you the opportunity to study different areas of sport and fitness in real working environments and allows you to decide which field you wish to work towards.
This course can lead to employment opportunities in the leisure and fitness industry, sports development and coaching or progression to higher education.

Anatomy and Physiology
Practical Sports
Psychology for Sports Performance
Sports Development
Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
Sports Nutrition
Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
Sports Coaching
Enrichment activities include participating in cross college sports events, curling, cycling, university visits, and coaching opportunities.
Functional skills in English and maths are a key part of the course.
You will be assessed by written assignments, verbal and visual presentations and practical assessments.
Please note that you will be required to purchase equipment and clothing from an external supplier for this course.
Students develop their skills through theory and practical sessions, group and personal tutorials. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma programme will be made up of 60% classroom-based sessions and 40% practical sessions.
Students will put together a portfolio of evidence for the units completed. This will be assessed internally and verified externally. Evidence will consist of a combination of assignments, poster presentations, formal observations and practical assessments.
Additional costs for trips and kit will be discussed at interview.
Entry Requirements:
4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, one of which must be English Language.BTEC First Diploma (Merit or Distinction) together with a grade C in English Language.
Career Options:
Students may be able to progress onto Higher Education, for example Sports Studies, Sports Management, Sports Science and Physical Education and Sport and Exercise Science. Students may choose to progress onto further courses such as Level 2 certificate in Fitness instructing, Level 3 Personal Training or Level 3 Sports Massage.
