Duration : 1 yearApprenticeships are very popular programmes designed by employers that provide paid work-experience, training and qualifications to people aged 16 and above.
An Apprenticeship framework comprises:
- A work-based qualification (NVQ), assessed in the workplace, demonstrating practical skills linked to the job
- A technical certificate, achieved at College, showing the theoretical knowledge relevant to the job
and other qualifications valued by employers such as:
- Functional skills, which show competency in English, maths or I.C.T applied to the workplace
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS); they include creative thinking, independent enquiry, reflective learner, effective participator, self management and team working.
Qualification
In the workplace, candidates must complete the following units:
Health and safety
Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
Maintain positive working relationships
Refinishing covers:
Carrying out complete refinishing operations
Mixing and matching paint colours
Identifying and rectifying paint defects and faults
Repair covers:
Removing and replacing body panels
Rectifying vehicle misalignment
At College, candidates will study the IMI technical certificate.
Functional skills in maths and English at Level 2 are also part of the framework.
Assessment is by portfolio and multiple choice test.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be aged 16 or over. They must be employed in a garage setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week (including work and College).Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English. All applicants will be individually interviewed and assessed.
Career Options:
After you have successfully completed this course you can enter full-time employment.For apprentices aged 19+ fees may apply but there is an expectation that the employer will pay this contribution.

i have had a hobby for couple of years now and its involving cars painting n body work and ive also refitted new panels on cars when thare write offs, i can weld paint,body work,strip and fit insides of cars, mechanical work, drive shaft change breaks and would like to get some qualifications so i can do work on cars thank you.
