Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3

Apprenticeships are very popular programmes designed by employers that provide paid work-experience, training and qualifications to people aged 16 and above.An Apprenticeship framework comprises:
- A work-based qualification (NVQ), assessed in the workplace, demonstrating practical skills linked to the job
- A technical certificate, achieved at College, showing the theoretical knowledge relevant to the job
and other qualifications valued by employers such as:
- Functional skills, which show competency in English, maths or I.C.T applied to the workplace
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS); they include creative thinking, independent enquiry, reflective learner, effective participator, self management and team working.
Qualification
In the workplace, candidates must complete the following units:
Mandatory units
Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
Maintain positive working relationships
Diagnose and rectify vehicle engine and component faults
Diagnose and rectify electrical component faults
Diagnose and rectify chassis component faults
Optional units
Inspect Vehicles
At College, candidates will study the IMI Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies, which
covers technical needs, including:
Diagnosis and Rectification of:
Engine and component faults
Chassis system faults
Auxiliary equipment electrical faults
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Functional skills in maths and English at Level 2 are also part of the framework.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be aged 16 or over. They must be employed in a garage setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week (including work and College).Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths, English, ICT or science and a relevant Level 2. All applicants will be individually interviewed and assessed.
Career Options:
You need to be in related employment to apply.For apprentices aged 19+ fees may apply but there is an expectation that your employer will pay this contribution.
