NCFE level 2 Certificate in Photography

Aimed at people of ages 16 and above who are familiar with their basic camera operation and who wish to explore an aspect of photography in more detail.Topics available are:
Action and Movement
Architectural
Close-up
Digital Manipulation
Landscape
Natural History
Portrait
Social Documentary
Still Life
Unit 1: Explore photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources.
In the first unit you will choose a specific area of photography and explore appropriate camera techniques and use of studio and other equipment. You will produce a How to. type guide for assessment which will include your test shots and explanations of what are demonstrating.
Unit 2: Develop and adapt ideas creatively in photography
The second unit involves research and evaluation of other photographers work, followed by development and experimentation with your own creative images. This unit is the practice, preparation and planning towards your final images.
Unit 3: Produce and evaluate photographic images.
Finally you will produce a portfolio of work on your chosen topic. This will include developmental as well as final images. The evaluation will be for the images produced and the preparation process.
Level 2 students will be guided but are expected to undertake a higher proportion of self-study and practice compared to Level 1 students who will form part of the same group.
You will need a digital camera (compact / hybrid-system, or, DSLR). The college has a limited range of equipment that can be loaned to students.
Continuous assessment through formal assignment tasks, observation and images produced.
Entry Requirements:
No formal qualifications, although the NCFE Level 1 Certificate would be beneficial. Entry is by successful interview.Career Options:
A level Photography or MediaBTEC Extended Diploma in Photography or Media.
HND or Foundation Degree in Photography
You will need to provide your own Photographic quality paper for some course images and final prints. Some prints may be produced commercially. Some mounting and presentation materials will also be required.
If conditions allow, a field trip and / or gallery visit may be arranged, incurring travel costs and entry fees.
