Duration : 2 years

This well-established programme extends the interaction of the theoretical, technical and creative aspects of photography and prepares you for employment within the field. College attendance is in the afternoon and evening, so you can keep up part-time employment and have time for daytime practical photography.

Subjects studied include:


  • Concepts in photography
  • Critical studies
  • Digital imaging (Levels 1 & 2)
  • Photographic techniques, processes and materials
  • Professional photographic practice
  • Visual design
  • Specialist project
Assessment is continuous throughout the programme and assignment work is presented at group critique. Written work and workbook development is assessed separately.

Entry Requirements:

You need a relevant Level 3 (A-Levels, BTEC or other) and four GCSEs including English and maths at grade C or above to apply, as well as a portfolio of artwork. Mature learners are welcome with relevant experience and a portfolio. All applicants will be interviewed.

Career Options:

You will be provided with the firm foundation of skills, techniques and understanding needed for successful employment in the photographic industries or for further study on the BA (Hons)
Degree Top-up in Photography or other related degree courses.
You will need a 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera and standard zoom/lens.
