MEET THE TEAM

Wendy Webb

I began working for the BBC initially at Television Centre in a technical capacity coordinating major sporting events and on 'live' programming. I've probably transmitted more Queens' speeches than you've eaten Christmas dinners. I was an assistant editor on the Narnia series, and on iconic programmes such as Top of the Pops and Tomorrow's World. After a year or two in a line manager role, I moved to Radio and acted as technical liaison for Radio's 1 and 2 move into new studios. I bring to teaching my enthusiasm for broadcasting, an ability to translate ideas into reality, and an on-going contact with the industry.

Paul Andersen

Life in TV began as a researcher on popular magazine programmes like the ITV children's series HOW and Tomorrow's World at the BBC. This meant days in the studio learning the craft of location and studio production and months of fun turning new information into an entertaining programme. After training, I joined the ranks of the directors working on a long list of factual programmes at the BBC, ITV and then as an independent producer for C4. Filming has included travel across three continents for science, holiday, daytime and current affairs programmes. For over 15 years I have been a trainer in the broadcast industry and spent three years as the Head of Training of an international media centre in Denmark. Teaching in the era of the web and interactive TV is as exciting as any production.

John Rumens

I spend most of my time as a Sound and Vision Engineer in a busy TV Master Control Area at the BBC. However, I also have worked as the Commentary Engineer for Sport broadcasts at European Athletics, Football, Cycling, and Equestrian events. I've been involved with a number of memorable broadcasts such as Live Aid, the start-up of CBBC, and the 2002 World Cup in Japan. I bring all this experience to my role as a visiting lecturer in Sound and Vision technology.

Holly

BTEC Level 3 in Media

Holly recently returned from working as a runner at the famous Elstree studios filming the last series of Big Brother. Holly said "I watched it for years and when I first went up there and saw how big an operation it is - it's just crazy, so many people are involved, it is pretty intense."

"In sixth form I was a bit lost, I didn't really know what to do, and then this course jumped right out at me. I thought it would be good fun and when I got here I realised I absolutely loved it."

Holly's tutor, Paul Andersen, said the show was a "great start to her career, it's fantastic and it's a really unique experience. Over the years we've had people go on to the BBC and lots of students go on to post-production houses in London."
