Duration : 18 monthsApprenticeships are very popular programmes designed by employers that provide paid work-experience, training and qualifications to people aged 16 and above.
An Apprenticeship framework comprises:
- A work-based qualification (NVQ), assessed in the workplace, demonstrating practical skills linked to the job
and other qualifications valued by employers such as:
- Functional skills, which show competency in English, maths or I.C.T applied to the workplace
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS); they include creative thinking, independent enquiry, reflective learner, effective participator, self management and team working.
Qualification
This level is made up of a minimum of 54 credits, candidates must complete 8 mandatory units and a minimum of 6 optional credits to achieve the qualification.
Mandatory:
Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
Advise and consult with clients
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Change hair colour
Style and finish hair
Set and dress hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Optional:
Fulfil salon reception duties
Promote additional services or products to customers
Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
Plait and twist hair
Perm and neutralise hair
Attach hair to enhance a style
At College, candidates will study functional skills in maths at Level 1 and English at Level 2. Assessment is by practical and written assessment, coursework and oral questioning.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be aged 16 or over. They must be employed in a Hair salon setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week (including work and College).Ideally applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including maths and English. All applicants will be individually interviewed and assessed.
Career Options:
After you have completed this course you can progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 or full-time employment.For apprentices aged 19+ fees may apply but there is an expectation that your employer will pay this contribution.
