The highly successful English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme at K College is designed for adult (16+) speakers whose home language is not English, who are living or trying to settle in England. The courses aim to enhance listening, speaking, reading, writing and understanding of the English language, whatever the starting level of knowledge.

Who are the ESOL classes for?

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are for people who have a first language other than English and who live or work in the U.K. Our students can be asylum-seekers, migrant workers, or be partners/families of these people. They may also come from settled communities.

Why do an ESOL course?

ESOL courses are designed to help you improve your level of English to get more out of your life in the U.K., and to make it easier to:

• talk to doctors, teachers, bank or shop assistants
• fill in administrative forms
• understand laws and customs
• help your children with homework
• study or train for a qualification
• look for employment or apply for citizenship

What will you learn?

All courses follow the Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life examination system and you will be taught all four skills of language learning: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

You will be required to do homework and to study outside of class time, as this is an important part of the learning.  You will have access to the College Learning Centre to use the computers for college work, to study in the library or to borrow books or magazines.

How will you be assessed?

ESOL courses are offered at 5 different levels to meet the specific needs of learners and the educational background at which they start. You will firstly have an interview with a tutor and take an Initial Assessment test to determine your overall level of English. You will then have a diagnostic test to see the areas of the language that you need most help with.  You will then be put into the most suitable class for your level:

1. Entry 1 Basic
2. Entry 2 Elementary
3. Entry 3 Pre-Intermediate
4. Level 1 Intermediate
5. Level 2 Higher Intermediate

At the end of the course students sit a mandatory examination, the Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life Certificate. The tutor will decide with you which level of exam you will take.

How long is the course?

All courses last for 10 weeks.  Students must attend the whole course and should not take any holidays during this time. If you are not sure that you can attend for 10 weeks, you must let the tutor know at the interview.

What can you do after this course?

You can progress on to the next level.  All courses last 10 weeks and students have the opportunity to enrol 3 times in one year- autumn, spring and summer terms.

To carry on to further education or university, or if your job requires a certificate of competence in English, you may progress to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) course, which measures the ability to communicate in English and is widely recognised by universities and employers in many countries.

After attending ESOL classes you may wish to enrol on another course at K College to gain a vocational or academic qualification.

Tam adı Başka Diller Konuşanlar İçin İngilizce (English for Speakers of Other Languages) olan ESOL kursları ilk dili İngilizce olmayan, Birleşik Krallık’ta oturan ya da çalışan kimseler içindir. Ne öğrenirsiniz?

Bütün kurslar Cambridge ESOL Yaşam Becerileri (Skills for Life) sınav sistemini izler ve size dil öğrenmeye ilişkin dört becerinin hepsi öğretilir. Bunlar Konuşma, Dinleme, Okuma ve Yazma becerileridir.

Sınıfta alacağınız eğitime ek olarak ev ödevi yapmanız ve kendi başınıza çalışmanız da gerekir, çünkü bunlar öğrenme sürecinin önemli bir parçasıdır. Kolejdeki öğreniminizle ilgili olarak Kolej  Öğrenme Merkezi’ndeki bilgisayarları kullanabilir, kütüphanede çalışabilir ve kitap ve dergi ödünç alabilirsiniz.

Nasıl değerlendirilirsiniz?

ESOL kursları, öğrencilerin kendilerine özgü gereksinimlerine ve kursa başladıkları aşamada sahip oldukları eğitime uyacak şekilde 5 değişik düzeyde sunulur. Önce bir öğretmenle görüşür ve genel İngilizce düzeyinizin saptanması için bir İlk Değerlendirme testine girersiniz. Sonra da, dilin hangi alanlarında en fazla yardıma ihtiyacınız olduğunu belirlemek için tanısal bir test yapılır. Ardından da, aşağıdaki düzeyler arasında sizin için en uygun olan düzeydeki kursa alınırsınız:

1. Giriş Düzeyi 1 Temel (Entry 1 Basic)
2. Giriş Düzeyi 2 Basit (Entry 2 Elementary)
3. Giriş Düzeyi 3 Orta Öncesi (Entry 3 Pre-Intermediate)
4. Düzey 1 Orta (Level 1 Intermediate)
5. Düzey 2 Yüksek Orta (Level 2 Higher Intermediate)

Kurs sonunda öğrenciler zorunlu bir Cambridge ESOL Yaşam Becerileri Sertifikası (Skills for Life Certificate) sınavına girer. Hangi düzeydeki sınava gireceğinize öğretmeniniz karar verir.

Kurs ne kadar sürer?

Bütün kurslar 10 hafta sürer.  Öğrenciler, ara vermeksizin bütün kursa devam etmelidir. On hafta boyunca devam edebileceğinizden emin değilseniz bunu başlangıçta sizinle yapılacak görüşmede öğretmeninize bildirmelisiniz.

Bu kursu bitirince ne yapabilirsiniz?

Bir sonraki düzeydeki kursa devam edebilirsiniz.  Bütün kurslar 10 hafta sürer ve öğrenciler, güz, bahar ve yaz dönemlerinde olmak üzere yıl içinde 3 kez bir kursa kaydolabilir.

İleri eğitime ya da üniversiteye devam edebilmek için, ya da işinizde İngilizce yeterlilik belgesine ihtiyacınız varsa, Uluslararası İngiliz Dili Sınav Sistemi (International English Language Testing System – IELTS) kursuna geçebilirsiniz. Bu, İngilizce iletişim kurma becerinizi ölçer ve birçok ülkede üniversiteler ve işverenler tarafından tanınır.

ESOL kurslarına devam ettikten sonra Kolejde başka bir öğrenim programına kaydolup mesleki ya da akademik bir vasıf edinmek de isteyebilirsiniz.

您将学习什么内容？

您必须在课外时间完成家庭作业并进行学习，这是学习过程中的重要一部分内容。您可以进入大学学习中心，使用计算机来学习在校功课、在图书馆学习或者借阅书本或杂志。

如何对您进行评估？

ESOL 提供满足学员特定需要和初学时教育背景的 5种不同等级课程。首先，导师会对您进行面试并参加一个初步评估考试来确定您的总体英语水平。随后对您进行诊断性测试，了解您最需要帮助的语言领域。然后将您编入最适合您水平的班级：

1. 1 级入门基础班
2. 2 级入门初级班
3. 3 级入门初中级班
4. 1 等中级班
5. 2 等高级班

在课程结束时，学生需参加一个强制性《剑桥大学 ESOL 生活技能》证书考试。导师将决定您参加的考试等级。

课程课时多长？

所有课程为期 10 周。学生们必须参加全部课程并且在此期间不得有任何假期。如果不能确定能否参加 10 周的课程，您必须在面试时告诉导师。

课后您可以做什么？

您可以进入下一等级进行学习。所有课程为期 10 周，一年中学生有秋季、春季和夏季 3 次入学机会。

K čemu slouží kurzy ESOL?

Kurzy ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages – angličtina pro jinojazyčné občany) jsou určeny pro ty, jejichž hlavním jazykem není angličtina a kteří žijí nebo pracují ve Velké Británii. Našimi studenty mohou být žadatelé o azyl, přistěhovalci za prací nebo partneři/rodiny těchto osob. Mohou také přicházet z usazených komunit.

Čemu se budete učit?

Všechny kurzy probíhají podle zkušebního systému Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life. Naučíte se čtyřem dovednostem při učení jazyka: mluvení, naslouchání, čtení a psaní.

Bude se od Vás očekávat plnění domácích úkolů v době mimo pobyt ve třídě, neboť se jedná o důležitou součást učení. Bude Vám zajištěn přístup do učebního centra College Learning Centre, kde budete využívat počítačovou techniku pro školní práce, budete moci studovat v knihovně nebo si vypůjčovat knihy či časopisy.

Jak proběhne posouzení Vašich znalostí?

Kurzy ESOL jsou nabízeny v 5 různých úrovních, které odpovídají specifickým potřebám posluchačů a jejich počátečním znalostem. Na začátku s Vámi provede lektor rozhovor a vykonáte test prvotního posouzení znalostí (Initial Assessment), kde bude zjištěna Vaše celková úroveň angličtiny. Pak budete zařazeni do nejvhodnější třídy pro Vaši úroveň:

1. Entry 1 Basic (Vstupní 1, základní)
2. Entry 2 Elementary (Vstupní 2, elementární)
3. Entry 3 Pre-Intermediate (Vstupní 3, začáteční střední)
4. Level 1 Intermediate (Úroveň 1, střední)
5. Level 2 Higher Intermediate (Úroveň 2, vyšší střední)

Na konci kurzu studenti povinně vykonají zkoušku s názvem Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life Certificate. Lektor rozhodne které úrovně zkoušky se zúčastníte.

Jak dlouho kurz trvá?

Všechny kurzy trvají 10 týdnů. Studenti musí povinně navštěvovat celý kurz a neměli by si během této doby brát volno. Pokud si nejste jisti, že se budete moci účastnit po dobu celých 10 týdnů, musíte tuto skutečnost sdělit lektorovi během rozhovoru.

Co můžete dělat po skončení kurzu?

Můžete postoupit do vyšší úrovně. Všechny kurzy trvají 10 týdnů a studenti mají příležitost zapsat se 3x během jednoho roku – do podzimních, jarních a letních kurzů.

V případě požadavku na další vzdělávání nebo univerzitní úroveň, nebo pokud v práci je od Vás vyžadován kompetenční certifikát z angličtiny, můžete postoupit do kurzu s názvem International English Language Testing System (IELTS), kterým se zjišťují komunikační schopnosti v angličtině a který je univerzitami i zaměstnavateli v široké míře uznáván v řadě zemí.

Po absolvování tříd ESOL se možná rozhodnete zapsat se do dalšího kurzu na akademii K College a získat profesní nebo akademickou kvalifikaci.

A qui s’adressent les cours ESOL?

Qu’allez-vous apprendre?

Tous les cours suivent le programme de Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life Examination ;

Les quatre éléments d’apprentissage linguistique sont enseignés: parler, écouter, lire et écrire. Les élèves devront étudier en dehors des cours et auront des devoirs à remettre. Ils ont accès au Learning Centre du College ou ils pourront étudier, emprunter des ouvrages et magazines et avoir libre accès aux ordinateurs pour leurs études.

Quel type d’examen passe-t-on?

Les cours ESOL sont proposés à 5 différents niveaux pour répondre aux besoins spécifiques des élèves et pour prendre en compte leur niveau de départ. Vous aurez tout d’abord un entretien avec un tuteur et passerez un test initial d’évaluation pour déterminer votre niveau général d’anglais. Un diagnostic des domaines dans lesquels vous avez le plus besoin d’aide sera ensuite réalisé, pour vous diriger vers le niveau de cours le plus approprié à votre profil:

Combien de temps dure la formation?

Chaque cycle de formation dure 10 semaines. Les participants s’engagent à assister à l’ensemble des cours et à ne pas prendre de congés pendant la période de formation.

Si vous n’êtes pas sûr de pouvoir assister aux 10 semaines de formation, il faut en informer votre tuteur lors de l’entretien.

Que peut-on faire après cette formation?

Vous pouvez progresser en suivant la formation de niveau supérieur. Comme chaque cycle de formation dure 10 semaines, il est possible de progresser chaque trimestre en s’inscrivant au cours supérieur.

Si vous voulez suivre une suivre une formation professionnelle ou universitaire ou si vous avez besoin de prouver votre compétence linguistique dans votre métier, vous pouvez préparer un diplôme IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

Après vos cours ESOL, vous pouvez vous inscrire à l’une des nombreuses formations disponibles à K College pour obtenir une qualification professionnelle ou académique.

Dla kogo są kursy ESOL?

ESOL (angielski dla mówiących innymi językami) są to kursy dla osób, których język macierzysty jest inny niż angielski i które mieszkają lub pracują w Wielkiej Brytanii. Jak długo trwa kurs?

Wszystkie kursy trwają 10 tygodni. Studenci zobowiązani są uczestniczyć w całym kursie i nie powinni planować w tym czasie urlopu. Jeżeli nie jesteście Państwo pewni czy możecie uczestniczyć w kursie przez 10 tygodni, proszę poinformować wykładowcę podczas rozmowy kwalifikacyjnej.

Co można robić po tym kursie?

Przede wszystkim można przejść na następny poziom. Wszystkie kursy trwają 10 tygodni i studenci mogą zapisywać się 3 razy w ciągu jednego roku: jesienią, wiosną i latem.

Chcąc kontynuować edukację w szkole wyższej lub na uniwersytecie, albo jeżeli w pracy wymagany jest certyfikat znajomości języka angielskiego możecie Państwo zdecydować się na kurs IELTS. Po ukończeniu kursów ESOL można też zapisać się na inne kursy w naszym collegu, żeby zdobyć kwalifikacje zawodowe lub akademickie.

¿A quiénes van destinadas las clases de ESOL?

Los cursos de ESOL (inglés para hablantes de otros idiomas) son para personas que viven o trabajan en el Reino Unido cuya lengua materna no es el inglés. ¿Por qué habrías de hacer un curso de ESOL?

Los cursos de ESOL están concebidos para ayudarte a mejorar tu nivel de inglés para que puedas sacarle más provecho a tu permanencia en el Reino Unido, y para facilitar las siguientes tareas:

¿Qué aprenderás?

Todos los cursos se basan en el sistema del examen ESOL Skills for Life de la Cambridge University y en ellos te enseñarán las cuatro habilidades del aprendizaje de un idioma: hablar, entender lo que oyes, leer y escribir.

Deberás hacer deberes y estudiar fuera del horario de clase, ya que ello forma parte importante del aprendizaje. Tendrás acceso al College Learning Centre. Allí dispondrás de ordenadores para hacer los trabajos para el curso y de la biblioteca, donde podrás estudiar o pedir prestados libros o revistas.

¿Cómo te evaluarán?

Los cursos de ESOL se encuentran disponibles en 5 niveles diferentes que responden a las necesidades concretas de los estudiantes y a la preparación educativa que poseen al comenzar. En primer lugar, tendrás una entrevista con un tutor y realizarás un examen de Evaluación Inicial para determinar tu nivel general de inglés. A continuación harás una prueba diagnóstica que permitirá revelar las áreas lingüísticas en las que necesitas más ayuda. A partir de entonces se te colocará en el curso más adecuado a tu nivel:

1. Nivel principiantes 1 básico
2. Nivel principiantes 2 elemental
3. Nivel principiantes 3 pre-intermedio
4. Nivel 1 intermedio
5. Nivel 2 intermedio superior

Al finalizar el curso, los estudiantes rinden un examen obligatorio, el Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life Certificate. El tutor decidirá a qué nivel de examen te presentarás.

¿Cuánto dura el curso?

Todos los cursos tienen una duración de 10 semanas. Los estudiantes deben asistir a todo el curso y no podrán tomar vacaciones durante este período. Si no estás seguro de poder asistir durante 10 semanas, debes hacérselo saber al tutor durante la entrevista.

¿Qué puedes hacer después de este curso?

Puedes avanzar al nivel siguiente. Todos los cursos tienen una duración de 10 semanas y los alumnos pueden inscribirse 3 veces al año (en los períodos de otoño, primavera y verano).
