Duration : 2 years

This course is for people who want to work as technicians in mechanical engineering. It involves a day release attendance at college every week over two years.
This course consists of 12 units and includes topics such as:
  • Mathematics for engineering technicians
  • Health and safety in the engineering workplace
  • Communication for engineering technicians
  • Mechanical principles applications
  • Project
There will be six further specialist units:
  • Further mathematics for engineering technicians
  • Further mechanical principles and applications
  • Engineering drawing for technicians
  • Commercial aspects of engineering organisations
  • Engineering design and properties
  • Applications of engineering materials
All subjects will have specific assignments to complete to provide evidence of understanding. Some of these will be "time-constrained" and take place under open book examination conditions. All units must be successfully completed.

Entry Requirements:


You need 4 GCSEs (grade A-C) or a relevant Level 2. Employment in an appropriate industry is helpful. Mature students with employment in an appropriate industry will also be considered.

Career Options:

Upon successful completion you can progress onto relevant further studies or enter into employment in mechanical engineering industries.
