What do the levels mean?

Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 (OCR)

Duration : 33 weeks

This course is offered as a progression from the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning
It is also suitable for experienced teaching assistants with at least 2 years experience of supporting learning.

The course runs for 3 hours per week and lasts for 33 weeks (term-time only).
It is intended for teaching assistants who have been regularly supporting teaching and learning and who wish to progress onto a Level 3 course.
It is also suitable for experienced teaching assistants who need a formal qualification. Volunteers with experience of supporting learning in the classroom may also be considered, provided that they have at least 2 years experience.
A school placement and CRB check are required for this course.

The certificate comprises of 11 mandatory units carrying 32 credits such as:
Communication with young people and adults
Schools as organisations
Child and young persons development
Safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people
Supporting learning activities
Promoting positive behaviour
Developing professional relationships
Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
Supporting assessment of learning
Personal development in health and social care
Support children and young people to stay healthy

Entry Requirements:

You must have a nominated member of school staff to act as your witness and mentor, an up-to-date CRB check and a 12-hour work placement (two days a week). If you have achieved a level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, we expect your school experience to be continuing to Level 3 without any breaks. This course requires you to have a sound knowledge of school procedure and support role.
