This qualification is for those who wish to work in childrens settings or services. The qualification enables you to apply for jobs across the sector, including schools and pre-schools, hospitals, as a nanny or as a childrens rep in the travel and leisure industries. In addition, the course carries UCAS points which means that, dependent on level of success, you can apply to university to study a range of courses including teaching, nursing and midwifery.
The course includes:
- An introduction to working with children
- Development from conception to age 16 years
- Supporting children
- Keeping children safe
- The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children
- Promoting a healthy environment for children
-Play and learning in childrens education
-Caring for children
-Development of professional skills within children's education
Functional skills in English and maths are a key part of the course.
You will be assessed by an externally-marked short answer paper and a research task.
Entry Requirements:
You need five GCSEs (grade A*-C) to include English, maths, and preferably science or a relevant Level 2 to apply. All students will be interviewed and additional assessments may be required at interview. You will be required to undergo a CRB check and the outcome may affect work placements.Career Options:
