Duration : 1 year

This qualification is designed for those wishing to work or working in a supervised role in the children and young people's workforce. The course will help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years and includes:
- Introduction to working with children
- Child and young persons' development (up to the age of 19)
- Safeguarding and welfare of children and young people
- Paediatric first aid
- The child care practitioner in the workplace
The College will arrange a variety of work placements throughout the year.
Functional skills in English and maths are a key part of the course.
All units are internally assessed and and methods could include:-
- Interpretation of knowledge from direct observation of practice in the workplace
- Written assignments
- Learners own plans and written recordings
- Witness evidence
- Optional task set by CACHE
- Professional discussion
- Reflection on own practice in real work situations

This course can also be studied part-time for those in employment within the early years sector.

Entry Requirements:

You need a Level 1 qualification or four GCSEs at grade D including English and Maths, a desire to work in this area and a commitment to appropriate behavioural standards. All students will be interviewed. You will be required to complete a CRB check at the beginning of your course, and the outcome of this may affect your work placements.

Career Options:

On successful achievement you can progress onto a relevant Level 3 or enter employment.
