People management is, at the same time, the most challenging and the most rewarding of all management functions. It is inherent in everything a manager does, every day. If management is "getting things done through other people" then gaining your team's co-operation, commitment and loyalty is key to your success.Objectives of the Course:
This course will introduce delegates to the nature of the manager's role, identifying people's similarities and differences and look at how to get the best from your team. This programme will enable participants to develop an understanding of the nature of people management, its complexities and challenges, offering key techniques and tools to help manage people successfully. It breaks down the role of the manager, how to get the best out of people, communication skills and delegation.
- Describe the complex role of the manager
- Assess the role of people management within a manager's role
- Identify ways to motivate individual employees and ensure their jobs are fulfilling
- Analyse the effectiveness of different communication techniques
- Evaluate which tasks can be delegated and to whom
Course Content:
Session 1 - What is management? Assess the characteristics of good managers and what makes them good
Session 2 - Motivation - getting the best out of people, looking at different motivation theories and how they can be used in practice to get the best from a team
Session 3 - Communication - ensuring you are getting the right message across and creating a positive environment for a team to work in
Session 4 - Delegation - differentiate between importance and urgency to identify what to delegate and to whom, whilst empowering and motivating a team
