Successful project management at a higher level requires the application of tools and methods of working that can maximise the operational and strategic potential of the project. Effective senior project managers need to plan, manage, monitor and deliver projects within complex organisations, often with external partners and in changing business environments.This requires consideration of the formal stages of project management; clear project definition; agreed outputs and outcomes; managing stakeholders/partners; managing risk and change; overcoming problems; project closure; evaluation and learning,
Objectives of the Course:
The course will enable delegates to develop a deeper understanding of the different stages and processes in project management so that they can define, manage and evaluate projects successfully.
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Identify the key processes in project management
- Describe how well managed projects contribute to achieving organisational objectives
- Deliver projects to maximise their strategic added value to stakeholders and partners
- Identify the importance of effective planning before implementing a project
- Analyse and evaluate risk and construct mitigations to overcome common problems
- Manage change and its impact on project delivery
- Assess the impact of a project through outputs and outcomes
- Conduct effective project evaluation
Course Content:
Session 1 - Overview of the four stages of project management - Project Initiation (research, scope, objectives, stakeholder mapping, approvals)
Session 2 - Project planning, outputs and outcomes, gaining buy-in
(detailed planning, quality measures, budgeting, risk identification)
Session 3 - Project execution and delivery, project governance
(motivation, delegation, action monitoring, control, change management)
Session 4 - Project closure and evaluation
(handover, impact assessment, learning for best practise)
