Law A2 Level (AQA)
Course Code: 1538
Law is one of the foundations of society. We are ruled by law and the law gives us the rules whereby we may resolve disputes, overcome problems and in some cases reinforce the values of society. Few schools offer law as a subject though most of us have some basic knowledge that we can bring to a course. This knowledge may stem from personal experience, fictional lawyer programmes on TV, the coverage of crime stories in the press or a complementary course such as citizenship, history or politics. The syllabus covers 3 modules for A2
1. Criminal law: fatal and non-fatal offences against the person OR contract law formation, discharge, remedies, etc.
2. Criminal law OR tort law OR human rights OR consumer protection
3. Concepts of law: morality and law, justice and law, balancing conflicting interests and judicial creativity
In their A2 year, students will sit an examination for one module in January and the remaining modules will be assessed by examination in June.
Trips and Visits: Opportunities to visit local magistrates, county and crown courts are integral to the course and visits to the "Old Bailey" and the High Courts in the Strand are further possibilities.
