Are you interested in how personality, cognition and social relationships develop from infancy through to old age? Are you interested in basic questions about the brain and the mind? Do you want to find out about why people behave the way they do? Psychology is a fascinating science concerned with the study of the mind and behaviour. The common factor linking people who study psychology is curiosity and the search for knowledge. Psychologists study such phenomena as perception, cognition, emotion, aggression, behaviour and interpersonal relationships.
At AS Level you will study:
Memory (short and long term); attachment in early childhood; psychological and biological responses to stress; applying biological and psychological models to explaining various abnormal disorders; social influence (conformity, obedience); and research methods.
At A2 Level you will study:
Relationships; intelligence; aggression; addiction; understanding research; and psychopathology.
Assessment is through examinations.
Entry Requirements:
For AS Levels you will need five GCSE passes at grades A*-C, including English and maths, as well as one grade B. Other relevant qualifications can be discussed at interview.If you have grades A and B at GCSE or a strong overall GCSE profile, well encourage you to study four AS courses.
To progress from AS to A2 you are expected to gain at least a grade C in the AS subject studied.
