If you love reading and examining a variety of texts in depth, sharing ideas with others and using your analytical skills to discover new and interesting meanings, this course will suit you.
You will explore the social and historical contexts of the chosen texts, and examine how language can offer a variety of meanings.
For the AS Level, you will study:

For the A2 Level, you will study:
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald (Penguin, 2007)
Captain Corellis Mandolin by Louis de Bernires (Vintage, 1995)
Rapture by Carol Ann Duffy (Picador, 2006)
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood (Bloomsbury, 2003)
The Time Machine by HG Wells (Penguin Classics)
*You do not need to buy copies of this book as we will supply copies of the poems to be studied.

For the AS you will be assessed through coursework on Much Ado About Nothing, The Rover and The World as a Stage; and through exams on all other texts
For the A2 you will be assessed through coursework on Oryx and Crake and The Time Machine; and through exams on all other texts.
Entry Requirements:
For AS Levels you will need five GCSE passes at grades A*-C, including English and maths, as well as one grade B. Other relevant qualifications can be discussed at interview.If you have grades A and B at GCSE or a strong overall GCSE profile, well encourage you to study four AS courses.
To progress from AS to A2 you are expected to gain at least a grade C in the AS subject studied.
