ALISON MONK

Deputy Principal

Alison Monk originally trained as a Nurse, in later years specialising in mental health, coronary care and terminal care before moving into nursing education. Since 1983 Alison worked in a variety of roles in Further Education: teaching, YTS, Nacro, health studies, early years and care management, then progressed into management and part-time inspection for nine years. Management roles have included: Head of School, Director of Quality & Curriculum Development, Vice-Principal and Acting Principal.

Appointed Deputy Principal of West Kent College in 2006, her role as Deputy Principal at the newly-merged K College includes strategic management, linking with external bodies such as schools, colleges, universities, governmental departments, OfSTED and other stakeholder groups. Alison is responsible for the strategic and line management of Curriculum and Quality across the College which includes planning and raising standards.

Alison has served on a range of county and regional bodies representing the College or other colleges at:

  • The North School – Chair of Governors
  • KCC SLDD Transition Group
  • Co-sponsorship of the new Academy in Tunbridge Wells
  • West Kent Learning Federation
  • School Trust Development
  • AOSEC Trust Developments
  • Aim Higher Board for Kent and Medway
  • Partnership with University of Greenwich and University of Kent
  • West Kent 14-19 Planning Forum
