Nicolas Heslop is public affairs manager at Edge, an independent education foundation, dedicated to raising the stature of practical, technical and vocational learning. Previously, he was public affairs manager at the sector skill council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies, SEMTA. He was a special adviser to the then education secretary, Baroness Shephard of Northwold.

He is an elected member at Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, representing the Cage Green ward and is the Borough Council's cabinet member for planning and transportation.  He is a governor at Cage Green Primary school, chair of West Kent Cruse bereavement care, and a board member of the Bridge Trust, a west Kent homelessness charity.
