Former K College student, racing driver Jake Hill, took to the track at Brands Hatch at the weekend with his car proudly displaying the K logo after he won sponsorship from the college.
17 year old Jake, who is based in Goudhurst, was the youngest driver competing in the Ginetta GT Supercup at the Kent race track, where 30,000 fans are expected for the event.
Jake attended K College on a part time basis at North Farm in Tunbridge Wells where Motor Vehicle classes are currently based while he was a pupil at Angley School in Cranbrook.
On Thursday, Jake brought his racing car, a 160mph Ginetta G50 to North Farm for the latest school pupils who are also studying motor vehicle at K one day a week to see it.
Jake said: ‘It’s been really nice to be sponsored by the College I used to go to, it’s cool. The College has really helped me, in a practical way, get to where I want to go. I’d just like to say a massive thank you to K College.’
Jake Hill is now an apprentice with a touring car team and he and his father, Simon, who has supported his racing career, are planning to help K students with their motor vehicle studies.
Nick Aldridge, Motor Vehicle team leader, said: ‘Our Level 3 students are learning about motor sport and team management, part of that is about sponsorship, so this is a great opportunity for them to learn about it directly from people who are in the business. Simon Hill is going to work with them to help them with their projects this year.’
Watching Jake, and hearing him talk about his driving experiences at North Farm were Levels 1, 2 and 3 maintenance and repair, and motorsport students, some full time at college and others from Mascalls, St Gregory’s, Wrotham and Angley Schools.

At Brands Hatch on Friday, Jake Hill topped the time sheets in the G50 category from the outset. He was on pole position for the first time in 2011, his 14th career pole position at only 17 years old.
He said: ‘The car was absolutely brilliant - I love this Brands Hatch, and I've now been on pole every time I've raced here - 5 times out of 5 - and won three times out of four so I'm really looking forward to the races.’
After being pushed into the gravel on the first race on Saturday, Jake’s team then carried out emergency repairs to his car, taking third place in G50 and 10th overall at the race.
