K College Press InformationK College Masterplan for Tonbridge Campus
Wednesday, 31 August 2011 17:00
As thousands of students return to brand new buildings at K College in Tonbridge this week, the public is being invited to see proposals for the final phases of the masterplan of the Brook Street campus.
Already last year, students were able to use one half of the first phase of the £86million rebuild of K College, giving them a new reception, coffee shop, restaurant, theatre as well as class rooms.
This September the second phase is being revealed, with more brand new classrooms as well as a state of the art library, music department and learning resource centre.
All this has been built while students and lecturers have continued to work alongside the construction. Principal, Bill Fearon, has complimented staff and students: ‘You have all committed to the new campus and coped exceptionally well with the challenges we have faced so far to achieve this award winning building. Many other colleges, which have new campuses, have built on new sites, but we believe we have an excellent location in the heart of the West Kent community, and so we committed to rebuilding at Brook Street in Tonbridge. The last three years have not been easy, but it has been well worth it to have the facilities we now enjoy which will represent one of the finest college campuses anywhere in the UK. We’re looking forward to seeking planning permission for the final phases of our masterplan for the whole site which should include the creation of new facilities in a Technology Centre for our extensive construction and engineering programmes currently based on the North Farm retail park in Tunbridge Wells.’
People are being invited to view the proposals for the remainder of the rebuilding of K College at a public exhibition in Lyons House, Lyons Crescent, Tonbridge, on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 10am to 8pm.
K College proposes a new Technology Centre and Bellway Homes a residential development to the east of the site and representatives from both the college and the developer will be available to show visitors the plans.
