Free Range Fashion

As the sun came up over Brick Lane in London, two K College BA Fashion & Textiles students waited patiently for the organisers of Free Range to provide them with keys to the Boiler House. Typical of London life our early morning students had to wait for nearly 2 hours to collect the keys, but after a few coffees and bagels they were able to enter the location of their latest show.

An eclectic mix of Fashion, Photography and Fine Art Students the stage was set during the day, in this old industrial building, as Foundation Degree photography students and staff arrived and Fine Art BA Students working with Textiles, arrived to present their work to a new audience. University of Kent staff and students were also involved in the planning and production which had only 24 hours to be prepared, presented and then removed. Later an entourage of models, hair and make-up artists arrived and a renowned Fashion Photographer for Graduate Fashion Week recorded the whole event from start to finish.

Doors opened at 6 and the music struck a cord at 7, a double photo shoot was in the making and students and models were tested for time, presentation and results. The hour until 8 passed successfully and we invited over 400 guests through the door and they passed comment on the show and the work, the doors closed at 9. The evening proved a huge success and is a very large stepping stone for the students and staff of K College for future participation in such events.

At 11.15 the keys were passed back to the events office amid the hub and mayhem of Brick Lane, the quiet early morning forgotten, this is now one of the most popular areas for London’s Fashionistas to party and was once the back bone for the Capitals Fashion industry.
