New Student Support Bursary

There’s good news from the government which have now agreed to provide an alternative type of funding for 16-18 year olds attending College from September 2011. K College doesn’t yet have full details of this new Student Support Bursary but we know that it will target funding at those most in need of financial help. Those who meet the criteria of being in ‘most need’ will receive £1200 per year whilst studying.

There is also good news for all other existing students who currently receive EMA:

• If you started your course in 2009-10, you will continue to receive the same payments until the end of the 2011-12 year.
• If you started your course last September (2010) and currently qualify for £30 per week payments, you will receive £20 per week until the end of the next academic year 2011/12.

What if you don’t fit into any of the above groups?

You will be able to apply for the new K College Student Bursary to help with the costs of travel, food and equipment if you:

a. continue onto the 2nd year of a 2 year course.
b. Progress onto the next level course.
c. Join us in September as a new student.

There will be a simple application process to check your eligibility for this bursary; the criteria will be based on family income.

K College is setting up a simple online application process and will be writing to students with details of how to apply.

If any students are currently worried about money or experiencing any problems that may make it difficult for them to come to College and successfully complete your course, please talk to the Health & Well Being Team at K College , in confidence on 0845 207 8220.
