K College Press InformationFashion start-up seeks inspiration from K College

Friday, 25th March saw the presentation of a cheque for £250 to Aniqah Cassem, a second year Fashion and Textiles Foundation Degree student at the Tonbridge campus of K College, as the winner of a ski-wear design competition.
Anton Vamplew and Rob Sneddon have recently set-up Snowjo – a ski-wear fashion company with the aim of producing exciting new looks for the slopes and après ski. They approached the College in December, with a brief to students for the design of suitable clothing layers and overall looks, as well as accessories. The students were asked to bear in mind that the designs had to be easily translatable into clothing, ready to launch in autumn 2011.
Anton said “It’s been a real eye-opener – we’ve got so much out of the project; the designs, textures and ideas that we can run with straight away just show the fantastic standard of work.”
The designs of both Aniqah and the runner-up, Libby Skinner, will now be worked up ready for production for October’s Ski and Snowboard Show in London. All of the students have been invited to attend by Anton, who commented “that way you can see you’re all way above the standard, boring stuff that’s currently on the market.” The students’ portfolios will also be featured on Snowjo’s website: www.snowjo.com
Fashion and Textiles tutor, Susan D’Souza, said “We are very excited about the link with Snowjo and the potential for the future and hope to build on the relationship established this year. We are planning to feature the garments in the end of year fashion show and the sketches in the art and design show.”
